Basa Basi Mitsy – Assessment Ideas That Do Not Stress Students: Ngobrol Santai & Portofolio Kilat
Cara menilai tanpa bikin cemas: percakapan santai dan portofolio ringan ala Basa Basi Mitsy. Campur Bahasa Inggris dan Indonesia yang natural dari kelas nyata.

Being a homeroom teacher for Year 11 means I overhear a lot of whispered conversations just before history essays are due. Last Tuesday, one of my students, Aisha, murmured “Pak, aku udah belajar sampai jam dua pagi tapi still feel like I know nothing.” That broke me a bit. Here at Basa Basi Mitsy, I always try to share the small classroom experiments that actually shift things–especially around assessment ideas that do not stress students into sleepless nights. Metal, my fluffier cat, was sprawled across a pile of draft rubrics on my desk that evening, completely unbothered, and I thought ‘kenapa nggak bikin penilaian yang lebih kayak kucing—tenang, tanpa tekanan berlebihan?’
Ngobrol Santai Instead of Pop Quiz
A couple of years ago I noticed that my Year 10 Bahasa Indonesia class froze whenever I said “kita ada quiz kecil hari ini.” Padahal kosakatanya sudah sering latihan. So I swapped weekly pop quizzes for something I call “cek-in ngobrol”. Saya duduk di meja bundar, murid bergiliran duduk bareng, dan kami ngobrol pakai Bahasa Indonesia selama tujuh menit. Saya menilai fluency, keberanian, sama penggunaan kata sambung–tapi mereka nggak merasa dinilai. One quiet kid, Rizky, who barely spoke in front of the whiteboard, akhirny bisa cerita panjang tentang liburannya ke Bogor. Padahal selama ini dia cuma diam. That conversational check-in menjadi data point assessment yang lebih jujur daripada kertas ulangan.
This shift isn’t just feeling-based. Research from the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) shows that up to 67% of secondary students experience significant anxiety before high-stakes tests, and alternative assessment formats, like structured conversations or portfolios, can lower perceived threat without sacrificing rigour. Jadi bukan cuma perasaan saya, sebenrnya ada buktinya. When I told my Year 12 History class about that statistic, a few of them genuinely exhaled. Mitsy the cat chose that exact moment to jump onto the windowsill and knock over a stapler, which made everyone laugh. A little bit of chaos helps, I think.
Portofolio Kilat yang Bikin Murid Punya Suara
Another experiment yang sekarang jadi andalan: what I call “portofolio kilat”. Instead of one massive end-of-term essay on the Roman Republic, saya minta murid mengumpulkan tiga potong kerja selama masa topik: satu peta konsep digital, satu rekaman suara 2 menit menjelaskan peran senat, dan satu paragraf refleksi pendek. Each piece gets lightweight feedback but no letter grade sampai mereka memilih dua terbaik untuk saya nilai formal. Ini ngasih mereka kontrol dan mengurangi rasa ‘this one essay determines my whole semester’. Satu hal yang paling saya suka, cara ini mengembaliin rasa percaya diri murid yang biasanya ilang karena tekanan tes.
My Year 9 homeroom group sempat skeptis, tapi setelah termin pertama mereka mulai minta “bisa nggak portofolionya pakai komik juga?” Yes, of course. Ada satu murid yang gambar seluruh rangkaian krisis Julius Caesar dalam gaya webtoon, dan dia explains the Ides of March better than any textbook paragraph. The shift in engagement was significant; attendance on submission days actually went up, and I heard fewer stress-related sick bay visits from that cohort according to our weekly welfare notes (April 2024 catatan wellbeing menunjukkan penurunan kunjungan ruang BK saat minggu penilaian, dari 8 jadi 3 kasus). Those numbers matter karena mereka adalah napas dari kelas yang lebih tenang.
Sekarang setiap kali ada minggu penilaian, I put a small note on the board: “Ingat, ini cuma salah satu cara menunjukkan apa yang kamu tahu, bukan satu-satunya.” Metal often parks himself on my chair right after class, and I like to think he approves. Basa Basi Mitsy isn’t about perfect lesson plans—it’s about the thousand little adjustments yang bikin murid tetap semangat datang, bukan sekadar survive.
